・Food Stalls: Numerous food stalls line the grounds and surrounding area, creating a lively summer festival atmosphere.
Popular with both locals and tourists, this event is worth visiting as part of your summer sightseeing in Osaka.

5.2 Crowd Situation and Countermeasures for New Year’s Hatsumode
Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine is one of Osaka’s top hatsumode spots, attracting over 2 million visitors during the first three days of the year alone.

🔸 Crowd Situation

  • New Year’s Day, midnight to 2:00 AM: Most crowded. The grounds are packed with people visiting for the countdown prayer.
  • January 1st, morning to early afternoon: Peak time. Long lines form around Soribashi Bridge.
  • January 2nd and 3rd: Relatively smooth, but crowded during the day.

🔸 Tips for Avoiding Crowds

  • The best times to visit are early morning (6:00 AM to 8:00 AM) or in the evening (after 5:00 PM).
  • Use public transportation (parking lots are often full).
  • If you absolutely need to avoid the crowds, visiting during the “matsunouchi” period (end of the year) from January 4th onward is recommended.
New Year’s-only goshuin stamps and lucky charms (such as hamaya arrows and lucky bamboo) are also available, so it’s a good idea to check the information in advance.
