8.1 Recommended Visiting Times
Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine is relatively peaceful to visit during the day, except during New Year’s visits and festivals.
However, for those who want to avoid the crowds and enjoy a more leisurely visit, we recommend visiting early in the morning or in the evening.
・Early Morning (6:30 AM – 8:30 AM)
→ The grounds are quiet, the air is clear, and the sacred atmosphere is palpable. It’s also ideal for photography.
・Evening (4:00 PM – 5:00 PM)
→ Fewer visitors, allowing for a more peaceful visit. The sight of the setting sun illuminating the Soribashi Bridge is renowned for its beauty.
Also, since summer festivals and New Year’s visits are extremely busy, weekday mornings are the best time to avoid the crowds.
Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine’s opening hours vary depending on the season: from 6:00 AM from April to September, and from 6:30 AM from October to March. The shrine generally closes around 5:00 PM.
Recommended times for each season are early morning when it is cool in summer and midday when the sun is warm in winter.
